Do your prices include hosting and domain registration? No. Hosting and domain registration are both recurring charges that you pay directly to Wix (unless you register your domain with another provider). You can pay the Wix premium plan monthly or annually, but domain registration is usually paid annually or every two years. NOTE: For new domains, Wix offers 1-year free domain registration with the purchase of a premium plan. Extra Special NOTE: Wix also offers 50% off sales every week or two, so if you time it right, you can get your first year for just over $100!

How and when do I pay you?I can accept payment via Zelle (for which I offer a 5% discount) or Paypal. If you don't have access to either of those, let me know and we'll figure something out. A 50% non-refundable deposit is due prior to starting work. The remaining 50% is due at launch, at which point I will hand the controls over to you!
-
What is your refund/cancellation policy? In general, I do not offer refunds. (But I've also never been asked for one. Not even close.) The only instance in which a refund would be necessary/offered is if I were to cancel the project prior to completion (e.g., due to a personal or family emergency). In that case, I would of course offer you a full refund of your 50% deposit. Otherwise, the 50% deposit is non-refundable. It is intended to hold your time slot (which prevents me from booking other work during that period) and to cover part of the initial work on your site. If, however, you are forced to cancel the project after we've begun, you may apply the amount of the deposit to the cost of any future work you'd like to schedule (including picking up where we left off). The final 50% payment (made upon site completion) is non-refundable. I work with each client to set clearly defined expectations at the start of work and remain in constant communication throughout the course of the project to ensure that they are met (typically, they're well exceeded). That's why my customer satisfaction rate is an enthusiastic 100%.

Do I need to be available for the whole 24 hours? No, just the working portion. (See the business hours Q below.)
-
What are your business hours? For 1-week and Everything sites my hours are: Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm (Pacific) / 12pm - 8pm (Eastern) For 24-hour sites: Monday - Friday 9am - 9pm (Pacific) / 12pm - midnight (Eastern) That said, if it's an emergency (i.e., you need to get an application in for an important gig that requires an IG or URL) and Instagram deactivates you outside of these hours, contact me ASAP and if I'm at my computer, I can at least let you know if I have availability.
-
How do you do this? Can my site really be live in 24 hours?Absolutely! As long as you are registering a new domain name with Wix and not transferring or connecting an existing domain (which takes up to 48 hours), the 24-hour timeframe is entirely doable. It does require a few things prior to starting the clock: We will have an initial phone call to discuss your needs and expectations to ensure that we are a good fit. You must complete a short questionnaire that will serve as the basis for all design decisions on your project. You will need to upload all images, video, and copy (text) that you want included to a designated Dropbox folder. You must own the rights to all images, video and copy that you intend to use on your site. (If you are at all are unsure, don't risk using it—IP claims can cost you dearly.) You will need to purchase a Wix premium plan, choose your domain name and register it with Wix (domain registration is free for the first year with your premium plan). I can talk you through the process. Then we're off to the races! Once I have received and reviewed your completed questionnaire and uploaded content, we will have a follow-up call that will allow us to put all the information together into a cohesive game plan for your site build. At several pre-determined milestones, I will share progress with you so that you have an opportunity to provide input and request changes as we go. IMPORTANT: In order to keep the project on track, you will need to be available during working hours (Pacific time) for questions and approvals. THIS IS CRITICAL FOR 24-HOUR PROJECTS. Once the site is ready to go live, we will have a recorded site walk-through and I will provide a brief tutorial in how to make basic updates. (I will share this recording with you so that you or your site manager always have something to refer back to, if needed.) If there are no final changes, we hit the Publish button and you're live! Once I receive your final payment, I hand over all site permissions to you, making you the proud owner of a (digital) castle built on your very own (virtual) land. Ta-da!

Do you use templates? I don’t want to look like everyone else.In the interest of time, I will start with a template, but once I’m through with it, the finished site will bear little to no resemblance to the original template. (Unless, of course, you want it to.) We will also be using your images, which are (presumably) unique to you. And Wix allows us to upload custom fonts, which will further differentiate the look and feel of your site.

Can you design my site in Squarespace instead of Wix?I could. But I would have to charge for the frustration factor. And you'd be more likely to have a site that looks like everyone else's since Squarespace's design interface is grid-based, which means you literally can't design "outside the box" (unless, perhaps, you're a dab hand at code, which I am not). Also, once I turn the site over to you, you would have to deal with Squarespace's suboptimal customer support (they have it, but only through chat and email, which has been consistently less-than-responsive in my experience). With Wix, you can get a real person on the phone 24/7, and I've never had to wait more than 30 minutes for a call back—usually more like 2 to 5 minutes. All that said, if you are committed to Squarespace, let me know what your needs are and I can give you a custom quote.

What if I don't have photos?Well, depending on your profession/industry, you may be able to get away with stock images instead. With stock, you always run the risk of someone else (many someones) using the same images, but hopefully they're not direct competitors. If you choose to obtain stock images for use on your site, they must be images that: (a) you have purchased the rights to use, usually via a site like gettyimages or shutterstock; or (b) are free images downloaded from sites like pexels or pixabay. Whether the images are free or paid, always check the license requirements to ensure your usage is compliant.

Why do you use Wix instead of Squarespace?Excellent customer support. Wix offers LIVE phone support 24/7. Squarespace offers only chat and email, which is fine for simple questions … but if it were simple, you probably wouldn't need to contact support, right? Design flexibility. Wix's editor platform was clearly designed by and/or with designers. Much like Adobe InDesign, it allows for fine-tuning of text, images and layout. In contrast, Squarespace’s platform is both fiddly and rigid—you can’t move an element just a few pixels. It’s either a third of the way across the page or nothing. 50% off sales. They've been running these every one to two weeks lately! Free domain registration. Get one year free registration on any new domain with the purchase of a Wix premium plan. Did I mention 24/7 phone support?

I'm not technical. What if I need to make changes later?I'm available for site updates large and small. Just let me know what you need and I'll give you an estimate. I also offer site maintenance subscriptions starting at $150/month. Ask for details if interested. But the beautiful thing about the Wix platform is that its robust, drag-and-drop interface offers you the autonomy (and budget-friendliness) of being able to maintain your own website without having to write a single line of code. When we launch your site, I'll walk you through the basics of making simple changes in a recorded Zoom meeting, so you'll have something to refer to. And Wix's own help center and customer support are STELLAR—at any hour, you can get a live person on the phone who will help you troubleshoot and answer any questions you have. As a fail-safe, if you make a mistake, there is not only an "undo" button, there's a site history feature that allows you to revert to a previously saved version of your site. Yet another reason I use Wix!

Wait, what about my Instagram? Can you get it back for me?I have helped one freelance creative get her Instagram back using publicly available information, which you can find here. However, it has to be a mostly DIY process since Meta will need to contact you periodically via your private email or your other Meta account(s). But if you just want someone to walk you through it, I may be able to help. Feel free to get in touch using the form at the bottom of the page. In the "any other questions" box, let me know what you think you might need and I'll give you a quote.
